RC Salisbury and Kang Vannak

Kang Vannak from Cambodia and some of our Rotarians and partners from the Rotary Club of Salisbury at the D9630 Annual Conference. Doug Kelly, Allison Knight, Robbie Knight, Bruce McNab, Alan Charles, David Bromwich, Chris Miranda, Jack Cooper, Riche Tan and DG Debbie James

Some of our actvities will continue on from the 2010-2011 Rotary year – a major activity started in 2009  is  our Literacy Program in Cambodia, as part of a program of re-connection with the local and international community. The worldwide Rotary CLE prorgam – now LitRAG, had its origins in the RC Salisbury with the efforts of Dick Walker in 1985. Eight of our members visited Thailand and Cambodia in October to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of our sister club Bangrak in Thailand and visited the three primary schools in Cambodia where the new literacy program is being established. Here is a map of the trip. The literacy project continues to flourish and they are now on their second “book”. We hope to have another visit fairly soon.

In October 2009 we  also started the new Sunnybank  Rotaract Club in the area with the help of 2 other Rotary Clubs and the other Brisbane Rotaract Clubs. The Club  is now Chartered and running well. There is a Website and Facebook site and overwhelming interest, so they now have a president and committee and are already planning activities and their official charter in mid 2010.  We also helped Nyanda High School establish an Interact Cl.ub and celebrated their charter on May 15 2010. Chris Miranda has been the inspiration behind these efforts. We are also active in the DIK Donations in Kind Program.

Our Pride of Workmanship evenings have been successful the last three years and the 2011 evening should be just as good.

Two new activities are our Rotary Legends as Guest Speakers and an International Toast to other Rotary Clubs organised by Wendy Pola.

We are now in the planning for our 50th Anniversity in the 2012-2013 Rotray Year. Watch this pace.
